Can Floor Heating Be Installed Without Floor Leveling?

Every year during the renovation season, many owners will find HVAC companies to install floor heating, but most of them have never used floor heating and know little about floor heating. Therefore, such owners often have not installed floor heating, resulting in poor heating effect after installation. Below, Hangzhou Bear Dad Graphene Floor Heating will share with you eight pitfalls in floor heating installation, hoping to be helpful to owners who want to install floor heating.

1. Clearance work

Some floor heating companies did not do a good job in explaining the situation in the early stage. During construction, waterways and electrical circuits were not prepared, causing delays during construction. Therefore, before installing floor heating, the decoration company and the HVAC company must do a good job of clarification to avoid mistakes when installing the equipment.

2. Leveling the ground

Some floor heating companies do not care whether the ground is flat or not when installing floor heating, which has a great impact on the function and effect of floor heating. If the ground is uneven, laying insulation boards directly will form holes, and in severe cases may even cause ground subsidence. Therefore, the floor must be clean and flat before installing floor heating. If the ground is uneven, a foundation leveling is required.

3. Gap processing

If the gaps in the insulation layer are not handled properly, not only will the heating effect be poor, but energy consumption will also be greatly increased. Some floor heating companies do not do anything to deal with the gaps between insulation materials during the construction process, resulting in a crazy increase in energy consumption in the later stages of floor heating, causing economic losses. Therefore, when installing floor heating, be sure to pay attention to the gaps between the insulation boards and between the insulation boards and the corners. Gaps between insulating panels must be sealed with aluminum foil tape. If the gap between the insulation board and the corner is too large, it should be filled with polyurethane. In addition, insulation boards should be laid under some furniture to prevent heat from escaping from this place.

4. Pipeline layout

The layout of floor heating pipes is special. It cannot be arranged at will. If placed too close together, the heater will overheat. If the layout is too scattered, the heating effect will be poor. During construction, please refer to the instrument markings on the reflective film and try to keep the tube spacing uniform.

5. Pipe joints

When draining floor heating pipes, there are not enough pipes in the middle. To save effort, one joint is connected directly to another floor heating pipe. Such an operation will increase the risk of floor heating leakage in the future, so the entire pipe must be used for each circuit during the installation process. There are heating pipes under the floor, so there is basically no water leakage.

6. Reserve a maintenance location

Some floor heating installers do not consider the possibility of later repairs when installing sub-collectors, and therefore do not reserve a repair location. During the later maintenance process, maintenance operations may become difficult or even impossible. Therefore, the after-sales issues of floor heating must be considered during installation, and enough maintenance space should be left to facilitate later maintenance.

7. Cutting corners

Some decoration companies only need to cover the floor heating pipes with concrete when backfilling the floor heating, which results in the backfill layer being too thin and causing the risk of ground subsidence in later use. When leveling floor heating, the backfill layer must be at least one centimeter thicker than the floor heating pipe, and the backfill material must also be selected, so that the heating effect will be better.

8. Stress test

Some floor heating companies do not perform pressure tests according to standards, or do not perform pressure tests, resulting in water leakage and inability to provide heating when the floor heating is used later. Therefore, after the floor heating installation is completed, a water injection pressure test should be performed to observe whether there is leakage in the floor heating. The pressure holding time must be 24 hours.

9. Dry the floor

After the floor was dry and the floor heating was backfilled and leveled, some owners hurriedly laid the floor in order to catch up with the schedule. After using underfloor heating for a few years, they noticed that the floor began to turn black. This phenomenon is caused by the high moisture content of the floor heating backfill layer. After the floor heating is turned on, water enters the interior of the floor, causing the floor to turn black. Therefore, before laying the floor, turn on the floor heating and wipe the floor dry so that all moisture in the backfill layer can evaporate.

Some of the above pitfalls are caused by the professionalism of the construction parties, and some are caused by the owners themselves who do not understand floor heating. In order to avoid pitfalls, it is recommended that owners who are planning to install floor heating must find a professional manufacturer before installing floor heating. When a professional HVAC company comes to install, you should also know some professional knowledge about floor heating to avoid giving the construction party wrong requirements during installation. Papa Xiong’s high-end floor heating is not cold even at minus 30 degrees Celsius. Look for the big brand manufacturers!
